GPR signaling is an evolutionarily ancient mechanism used by all eukaryotes to sense environmental stimuli and mediate cell-cell communication. GPR34 is a 381 amino acid protein belonging to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. Widely expressed, GPR34 is localized to the cell membrane. Function: G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs, or GPRs) contain 7 transmembrane domains and transduce extracellular signals through heterotrimeric G proteins. It has been reported to be expressed in the brain, particularly in caudate, frontal cortex, putamen, and thalamus, as well as in eye, liver, and testis.
